Cerberus is the alias of a soon to be recently retired police officer in a major metropolitan city in the United States. Nearing the end of Looking back upon a career that has been full of common, and some quite unusual assignments and experiences, Cerberus writes here for his own enjoyment. While he would never write about his former employer, he will sometimes pen fiction about an imaginary police department in the non-existent town of Some City U.S.A. As police work is the same most every place, and all chiefs of police are busily copying “new” and “innovative” programs off each others papers, the similarities between imaginary Some City PD and an actual police department may be striking.
The photograph on the header of the front page is of a sergeant from my agency from the early 1920’s. Look at his face and you see a man who has seen it all and is rarely surprised. Pal, I know how you feel.
