TF and I were watching the story about the government spy, Robert Jenssen tonight. It is a true story about an agent/mole that turned over U.S. government secrets for over 15 years. He held top positions with the government agencies and was a sly dog. It is a shame that people can’t trust each other in certain areas.

Any company should “police” positions of interest in areas of importance….

A comptroller working at one of the car dealerships I worked with had an honesty issue. Once I learned how she conducted their payables accounts I explained that I could no longer extend them credit and that all bill were due upon completion of work. At the time they owed past the 30 day limit and I was there to collect prior to adding any more to the list. I did get paid and within a month or so the once solid car dealership had folded up. My guess is they’d entrusted their comptroller far beyond her honesty level.

Someone tried to scam me last week by saying that I won a thousand dollars in a contest at the bank. They made it look very offical, sending me the news in a federal express package with a return federal express envelope, “offical” paper work and a friendly lady that called me up on the phone. They were asking for my social security number and TDL number on the “offical” paperwork. It just didn’t sound right so I called the bank to ask about the contest and they said that it was a scam. I was asked to bring the paper work to the bank so that they could try and track down this elaborate scam.

My goodness, there are so many crazy scams out there. I also would get so frustrated with people for falling for them and then wanting something done. My favorite was the prospective landlord who would have a tenant contact them online and offer to send them a whole paycheck and have the landlord rebate the difference after rent was taken out and send a money order for that amount. By the time the bank rejected the first check, the other money was already well on its way. People certainly do get stupid when it comes to money and like your article says, that even includes excessively large mortgage amounts at close to nothing payments. I was glad to see the economy bounced back a little today.
